I have always found writing to be escapism. It has been my way of disappearing, using text to build a world or reflect on something deeper that I can’t comprehend with just thoughts itself. Long before becoming an academic writer, my journey began in media clubs and most importantly, online, through Tumblr blog posts where text and images became an early tool of observation and appreciation. Fashion slipped into my writing as a cultural surface, a means in which my view of the world is displayed. As I approach my topic with visual and cultural record, I intend on writing with attention where meaning is not prescribed but questioned, considered and reflected. My background in journalism, media studies, anthropology and tom-foolery on Substack has allowed me to approach writing with a dual lens: curiosity and critique. @oneliahelene
